The Rosenblatt Recital Series continues on GMN this week with the second part part of Chinese singing sensation, Liao Chong Yang's evening of European and Chinese firecrackers from the Church of St John's Smith Square in the heart of London.
Liao was catapulted into the international operatic arena on winning the highly rated Operalia Competition in Tokyo in 1997, a competition under the aegis of none other than Plácido Domingo and Alberto Vilar. Not only did the great tenor join the young baritone in the Prizewinner's concert in Tokyo but also shared the stage with him in 1998 in Shanghai's prestigious Grand Theatre.
The two struck up an immediate friendship, hardly surprising given Domingo's summing up of Liao's attribues: "A great singer! We are greatly touched by his music. It is hard to image that he possesses such a deep heart at such a young age. He has incredible technique and sense of music. A talent of the younger generation."
