Leighton, Kenneth

( Born; Wakefield, 2 Oct 1929; Died; Edinburgh, 25 Aug 1988). English composer. He studied at Oxford and with Petrassi in Rome, and in 1970 was appointed professor at Edinburgh University. His music is in a 12-note but fundamentally diatonic style; its romanticism is expressed in lyrical melody, instrumental colour and virtuoso solo writing.
