Dandrieu, Jean-Fran&çois

(Born; Circa; 1682; Died; Paris, 17 Jan 1738). French composer. He was an organist in Paris from 1704, from 1721 at the royal chapel. The most celebrated French harpsichord composer of the 18th-century after F. Couperin and Rameau, he published six harpsichord collections, Circa; 1704-1734. They include many character pieces. Several pieces in the later books are revisions of early works, written in a simpler, more modern style akin to Couperin's. The book of organ noëls (?1721-33) is based on music by his uncle Pierre (Died; 1733), who may also have written some of the airs. Jean-Fran&çois also wrote trio sonatas (1705), violin sonatas (?before 1710) and an organ collection (1739).
