Hadley, Patrick (Arthur Sheldon)
(Born; Cambridge, 5 March 1899; Died; King's Lynn, 17 Dec 1973). English composer. He studied at Cambridge and with Vaughan Williams at the RCM. In 1938 he returned to Cambridge as lecturer, and became professor (1946-62). His music, much of it for choral-orchestral forces, is essentially Delian; in his finest work, The Trees so High (1931), for baritone and orchestra, he reconciled folksong with symphonic form.
