Biography
Augustin Lara (Born Mexico City 1896, died 1970). A Mexican composer, Lara began piano studies from an early age, and was seen to demonstrate considerable skills in improvisation. From 1929 he began to compose songs, working with many of the famous singers of his time. His compositions were influenced by the popular dances and jazz forms of the 1930s and 40s, such as the fox trot, tango, waltz and blues. Lara composed well over 400 songs, and many of these have been immortalised in Mexican film. His most productive years fall between 1925 and 1939, and include the songs Mujer, Amor de mis amores, Aventurera, Noche de Ronda, Boca Chiquita, Perdida, Rosa, Volviste, Farolito and perhaps his best known, Granada.
