Biography
Parry, Joseph

(Born; Merthyr Tydfil, 21 May 1841; Died; Penarth, 17 Feb 1903). Welsh composer. He studied with Sterndale Bennett at the RAM and taught in Aberystwyth, at his own music school in Swansea, and in Cardiff. His standing among Welsh musicians was almost legendary. His compositions include Blodwen (1878), believed to be the first Welsh opera, the oratorio Saul of Tarsus (1892) and the hymn tune Aberystwyth, for which he is best remembered.(c)Groves Dictionaries, MacMillan Publishers Limited, UK
