(Born; Brighton, 1 Nov 1877; Died; London, 21 Sept 1953). English composer. He studied at the Hoch Conservatory, Frankfurt. He is best known for his songs, most written 1900-30, in a style of seeming effortlessness and extreme sensitivity. He also wrote successful light orchestral pieces (e.g. A Children's Overture, 1919).
