Rudolph (Johann Joseph Rainer), Archduke of Austria

(Born; Florence, 8 Jan 1788; Died; Baden, 24 July 1831). Austrian patron of music and amateur composer. He was Beethoven's pupil for 20 years, as well as his friend and greatest patron; among the works dedicated to him are the 'Archduke' Trio op.97 and the Mass in D op.123.(c)Groves Dictionaries, MacMillan Publishers Limited, UK
