The Lark (1840)
Between heaven and earth a song resounds, and in a torrent
a source it streams ever louder. The singer of the fields
cannot be seen, where the lark is singing in clear tones so
loudly over his little friend.
The wind carries the song, but does not know to whom...
the one for whom it was intended will understand and will know
from whom it came! Stream forth, my song, my song of sweet
hope: someone will remember me and will sigh in secret.
