Edward Elgar (1857-1934)
Chanson de matin Op.15 No.2 - Arr Graham Sibley
The Helicon, also known as the Cavalry Horn, is a circular brass instrument which wraps
arond the body - over one arm and under the other - in much the same way as a Sousaphone.
Thus, it lends itself well to being carried and was much in demand by marching and
military bands in the nineteenth century. Elgar would no doubt have raised an eye-brow,
and a smile, at this arrangement of his original for violin and piano.
