David Horne: Rush

Rush was written in 1996 for Daniella Ganeva who also commissioned the work. This piece combines both untuned and tuned instruments as organically possible. One example of this is found at the outset of the piece where the vibraphone assumes a melodic role, punctuated by rapid figurations on untuned percussion (temple blocks). Later on at a similar reflective moment, the drums have the ‘melody’ punctuated by staccato vibraphone interjections.
