Martin Wesley-Smith: For Marimba and Tape
For Marimba and Tape was realised on the Fairlight CMI (Computer Music Instrument) in
the Electronic Music Studio of the New South Wales State Conservatorium of Music in Sydney
and was originally intended for tape alone (Electronic Study No.37 (b)). From the start,
one of the parts acquired a distinctly instrumental flavour and a re-orchestration was
easily managed on the CMI to allow for a live solo line. Additional versions of the piece
now exist for clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophone, viola and trombone.
