Petite pièce

Claude Debussy (1862-1918)

Petite pièce (1909-10)

The two clarinet works of 1910 (Petite pièce and the Première rapsodie) were written as a test piece for students at the Conservatoire, where Debussy was serving as a judge for the wind instrument examinations. The Rapsodie in particular delighted him, and he declared it to be "one of the most pleasing pieces I have ever written." The short Petite pièce, neat and trim, was designed for sight-reading.
