Carlo Boccadoro (b.1963)
Octet on Themes by Cole Porter (1990)
2. Presto – Trio
Contemporary Italian composer Carlo Boccadoro states that Broadway musical comedies and the jazz themes of Cole Porter provided the basic stimulus for this octet, although there are also moments when a direct link with the classical styles and forms of the past can also be discerned. The work is written for wind octet, and combines moments of intense lyricism, where the Broadway and jazz melodies are sensitively presented, with sections that are of a highly atonal and dissonant nature.
