Donde lieta usci (from La Bohème)

Puccini - La Bohème: Donde lieta usci

During the third act of La Bohème Puccini's heroine, Mimi begins to fall out with her lover, the poet Rodolfo, finding his jealousy an increasing burden. She overhears him telling his friend Marcello that he plans to leave her because of her flirting, but then admits that the real reason is that he has no means to look after her as her illness worsens. A cough reveals Mimi's hiding place. Rodolfo realises she has heard everything, and the subsequent arietta 'Donde lieta usci' is her farewell song as they regretfully agree to part without hard feelings.
