Veronica Dudarova  Biography

Veronica Dudarova is one of Russias foremost and well-known contemporary conductors. She is an artist of brilliant artistic individuality and breadth. Her unique technical skills lie in the harmony of a bright temperament, intellectual tension, improvised impulse and polish. Her performances emit romantic freedom, fullness of feeling together with a classical understanding of form, tempi and a keen sense of the art of drama.

Critics have often written of Mrs.Dudarova’s performances as having their own special power: a subtle stylistic intuition, a sensitivity to timbre and the beauty of her orchestral balance.

Veronica Dudarova began her musical career at music school in Baku, Azerbaijan. Later, she studied piano under the instruction of Professor Pavel Serebriakov at the musical school of the Leningrad Conservatoire. She soon discovered the fascination of orchestral conducting and entered the conductor’s department of the Moscow Conservatoire to study under L.Ginzburg and N.Anosov.

Due to her outstanding talent in 1960 she was appointed Chief Conductor and Art Director of the Moscow Symphony Orchestra which at the end of 1983 celebrated its 40th anniversary. Veronica Dudarova headed this orchestra until 1989 and in 1991 she founded a new musical collective - The State Symphony Orchestra, directed by herself, which in October of 2001 celebrated its 10th anniversary.

Her repertoire is extensive and versatile involving works of different styles and periods. 'Personally', she says, 'I have a preference for large-scale forms with complex philosophic content.' Her main principle is that conductor is the prime mover in the orchestra and is responsible for all that happens, and she follows this principle doggedly.

Veronica Dudarova has had a long and glittering career in the states of the former USSR, Poland, Yugoslavia, Mexico, Venezuela, Denmark and many other countries.

Dudarova has been awarded the highest Soviet and Russian State decorations and awards including a People’s Artist of USSR and the State Prize.
